WATCH OCEAN FRONTIERS III

Have you watched Ocean Frontiers III yet? If not, you are in luck! We are pleased to share the film with you online at no cost. Take time this holiday season to get some ocean optimism from these inspiring ocean stories! Explore the challenges at the heart of ocean conservation and development and learn about the solutions from a range of people who are leading the way to a healthy and sustainable ocean future.

Since the premiere film screening at the Virginia Aquarium’s six-story high 3D theater in February this year, we’ve worked with hundreds of partners to screen the film in 275 events across the country. From Belfast, Maine to Key West, Florida, from Yachats, Oregon to New York City and many points in between, we’ve loved meeting you! Thank you for your interest in the nation’s first regional ocean plans and your commitment to our oceans and coastal communities.

“For the first time in our country’s history, we have come together as a team to tackle a really big issue,
the really big problem of the health of the ocean.”
Laura McKay, Virginia Coastal Zone Management Program

REGIONAL OCEAN PLANS – ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY & SUCCESS STORIES

Photo: US Geological Survey

Earlier this month marked the one year anniversary of the nation’s first regional ocean plans for the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions! It’s an important milestone to celebrate and an opportunity to look at some of the successful outcomes of the regional ocean plans. You can learn more about Gotham Whale’s citizen science that is providing brand new data on the upsurge of whales off New York’s harbor, and how ocean planning helped site a critical wave-monitoring buoy in heavily trafficked waters off Cape Cod.

Go to the Northeast Ocean Data Portal to learn about siting shellfish aquaculture to avoid fishermen, whales and ships, and to the the Mid-Atlantic Ocean Data Portal to find out how the Coast Guard’s data is helping solve conflicts between vessels and other maritime activities.

Want to dive deeper? More ocean planning success stories can be found on the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic data portals, and on Ocean Conservancy’s blog.
